Reversing Secularization of the Church
Description: This talk suggests a path to a reversal of the rampant secularization of the Church. Secularism is the anti-religious (especially anti-Christian) worldview that true knowledge can only be found through rational or empirical means. Secularists live their lives with an orientation toward the present world only, as opposed to the Christian view that life is everlasting.
Much of the acceptance of secularism in the Church is the result of the introduction of biblical compromise (especially theistic evolutionary philosophy) into the Church by theologians and Christian educators. The great mistake these men have made, and continue to make, is to accept and then promote non-scriptural explanations for the geology of the earth. This mistake has allowed for much harmful compromise to fundamental biblical teachings, especially with regard to the history in the Bible. If the biblical history is wrong, then logically, there is no reason to believe any other aspect of its teachings; and there is no reason for the Church to resist the barrage of detrimental secular ideas aimed at it by its Adversary.
Mr. Mitchell’s talk will be a call to all Christians, and especially its theologians and educators, to take a fresh look at the earth’s history using the Biblical Worldview. He will carefully compare the atheistic presuppositions of uniformitarian giant Charles Lyell (that the Church has by and large accepted) to the biblical presuppositions of scriptural geologist George Young (that the Church has mostly ignored). Mr. Mitchell believes that an open-minded study of these presuppositions, along with a look at the actual scientific evidences, will result in a determination that reality only matches the Biblical Worldview.
Speaker: J.D. Mitchell is a registered professional engineer in Oregon and Washington and has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. He has also completed his Master of Biblical Studies in Biblical Creation Apologetics from Master’s Graduate School of Divinity.
J.D. is Executive Director of the Institute for Creation Science of Oregon, and speaks and writes regarding the creation versus evolution controversy as a part of his creation science ministry (Creation Engineering Concepts).
