Has Science Now Buried God?

Description: This talk is based on Dr. John Lennox‘s book, God’s Undertaker: Has Science Buried God?” According to many modern commentators, science has now explained all that we observe in the universe and God is no longer needed. We are told that atheism is the only intellectually tenable position, and any attempt to invoke God as the explanation impedes progress in science. Lennox asks the critical question whether science points to atheism? He shows that theism fits more comfortably with  science than atheism. Science is limited in the scope of its explanations. We conclude that this is not a debate between science and religion, but a debate between two very different worldviews.

Origins, Life and Information

Description: We examine how and where life originated – On earth? In some warm pond as suggested by Darwin? In an ocean vent? By means of self organization? By means of panspermia? By means of directed panspermia? Or was life created according to its kinds by a Designer as described in the first chapter of Genesis? The role of information in living organisms leads us to the inevitable conclusion.

Life consists of material (matter & energy) as well as non-material parts (information). We discover the similarity in the nature of information, machines and programs in writing systems, computer systems, and living systems Each requires a design, and therefore a designer.  This similarity helps us to explain why life did not, does not, and will not start from non-life by chance. Science and the Bible agree on this.

The information and the programs running in the human cell provide evidence that we were created by an Intelligent Being (God) and did not get here through self organization and evolution. Living organisms require information, complexity, and design. These all require an intelligent designer.

Suffering and the Goodness of God

Why The Bible Is Unique

Darwinian Pseudoscience

Description: Secular scientists claim that Evolution is a fact. They even go so far as to say “Evolution Explains Everything.” But can this be verified by empirical science? We examine some of the secular science statements made in the last few years in which these scientists propose new natural explanations for 1) the origin of our universe, 2) the origin of first life, and 3) the origin of complex life (Darwinian Evolution). We think of Evolution, Creation, and Intelligent Design when it comes to origins. The doubts that Darwin expressed about his theory more than 150 years ago in his book on “The Origin of Species” have still not been resolved in favor of Evolution. Secular scientists have now resorted to pseudoscience in their attempts to rescue the Theory of Evolution and explain origins. In this lecture we focus on the pseudoscience put forth by the Neo-Darwinists in the area of the origin of complex life.

Geology and The Clash of Worldviews

Description: Secular geologists say there has been no global flood as described in the Bible, but vast layers of rocks provide a monumental testimony to this event and God’s recent judgment of humankind. This presentation provides an introduction to Creation Geology and a characterization of the geological column that is logically derived from the Biblical worldview.

Several important examples are provided that show how strata and canyons can form rapidly, rather than over millions of years. In addition, the secular geologic worldviews are examined to illustrate how historical bias against catastrophism has caused erroneous interpretations of geologic features that are now known to have been formed catastrophically.

Speaker: Chris Ashcraft is a Christian educator employed as high school science teacher at Cedar Park Christian Schools, and adjunct professor at Northwest University. Chris has also worked in plant biotechnology. He was a research technician at the Cotton Fiber Production Laboratory at Texas Tech University, then at the Plant Transformation Facility at Oklahoma State University, and lastly was the Plant Transformation Specialist for EDEN Bioscience in Bothell, Washington.

He obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology from Wayland Baptist University in 1989, a Master of Science in biology from Texas Tech University in 1996, a Master of Education from the University of Washington in 2008, and a Master in Teaching Math and Science from Seattle Pacific University in 2012.

Chris moved from research science into the teaching profession to serve God in Christian education. His decision was motivated by the impact that secular science is having on people of faith. Today, close to 50% of Christian students lose their belief in God while attending secular schools. This tendency could be lessened if the Church was better equipped to defend the authority of Biblical teachings (1 Peter 3:15). To be prepared for these challenges, it is important that Churches provide regular educational programs on creation and other Bible Apologetics.

Information: The Basis For Life

Description: Life consists of material (matter & energy) as well as non-material parts (information). We discover the similarity in the nature of information, machines and programs in writing systems, computer systems, and living systems. Each requires a design, and therefore a designer.  This similarity helps us to explain why life can not start from non-life by chance. The role of information in living organisms leads us to the inevitable conclusion.

The information and the programs running in the human cell provide evidence that we were created by an Intelligent Being (God) and did not get here through self organization and evolution via random chance. Living organisms require information, complexity, and design. These all require an intelligent designer. Science and the Bible agree on this.

Learning From Catastrophe: Biological Recovery at Mount St. Helens

Description: Noah’s Flood left the entire earth biologically devastated. Creationists believe that over the tens, hundreds and thousands of years following the Flood, living organisms recovered, eventually producing the ecosystems seen on the modern earth.  But is such a belief reasonable? Is the biota really that resilient? And if so, by what ecological mechanisms could such remarkable transformation take place?

Since there is no detailed information on biological changes which transpired following the Flood, creationists must look elsewhere for information.  One source is the study of recovery from modern disturbances, such as the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens which produced a 230 square mile area of biological devastation termed the blast zone.  The responses of organisms to this eruption have now been intensely studied for over 35 years generating hundreds of articles.

Dr. Keith Swenson shows us this renewal of life in the blast zone, noting the resilience of the creation and suggesting some comparisons between what happened at Mt. St. Helens and what must have occurred globally following the great Flood described in the Bible.

Speaker: Dr. Keith Swenson is a retired medical doctor who now teaches courses in biology and geology at Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. He also served for twenty years as President of Portland’s Design Science Association and was on the board of the Seven Wonders Museum near Mount St. Helens. Keith especially enjoys leading field trips and has taken thousands to Mount St. Helens, the Columbia Gorge, Northwest forests and the Grand Canyon. He co-leads, with Dr. Steve Austin, periodic trips into the “Little Grand Canyon” at Mount St. Helens. Keith has a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Idaho and an M.D. from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He and his wife, Connie, have four grown children.

Paranormal Apologetics

Description: Often, apologists do not answer many of the questions that numerous Americans are asking today about paranormal events. We define paranormal events as “reports of events that seem to defy any natural explanation.” Dr. Fernandes addresses some of the paranormal questions that non-believers are presently asking. Worship Service: One Nation Under God

Description: The talk begins with a walk through the history of America and the price that was paid for our freedoms. Included are America’s War for Independence, the Civil War, WW 1 and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, as well as the Cold War and war in the Middle East.
The discussion then focuses on another and greater battle that will shape America’s future. It is the war for the heart and soul of America. What About Global Warming?

Description: The issue of Global Warming (GW), now referred to as Climate Change (CC), has received a lot of attention in the press.  The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued its Fifth Assessment Report.  The IPCC claims that GW is occurring at a rapid rate, that GW is largely due to the increased burning of fossil fuel, and that we face dire consequences if we don’t cut back on greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. The Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) has concluded that Nature, not Human Activity, rules the Climate. We explore the science behind these different conclusions.

GW alarmists tell us, in effect, that “the end is near” unless drastic state-imposed restrictions are imposed now on our consumption of CO2 emitting fossil fuels – despite God’s promise to Noah – Gen. 8:22.  Other climate scientists claim that any GW is largely due to natural causes such as sun irradiance,  the El Nino phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, etc. This raises some legitimate questions – 1) What are the facts? 2) What is the appropriate biblical perspective? 3) Should we be concerned? and 4) Is there another agenda?

Reversing Secularization of the Church

Description: This talk suggests a path to a reversal of the rampant secularization of the Church. Secularism is the anti-religious (especially anti-Christian) worldview that true knowledge can only be found through rational or empirical means. Secularists live their lives with an orientation toward the present world only, as opposed to the Christian view that life is everlasting.

How To Interpret Fossils

Description: Mr. Mitchell’s presentation will highlight information found in his new book, Fossils: Description & Interpretation – Within a Biblical Worldview. A point of focus will be the foundational ideas upon which the book is based:

• Most fossils are evidences of a single, year-long, cataclysmic event that took place on the earth some 4,500 years ago (the Genesis Flood).
• These fossils have great value today because they are a reminder of, and proof of, God’s judgment, power and grace.
• These fossils are not evidences of many events over hundreds of millions of years that have value today because of their great age and their proof of the macroevolution of life.

In order to emphasize the truth of the book’s foundational ideas, the “18 Facts of Paleontology” will be enlisted to make clear the superiority of the Biblical Worldview over the Secular Worldview. Fossils only make sense to the critical thinker if the vast majority of them are understood to be the result of the global Flood at the time of Noah.

A variety of apologetics and biblical creationist educational materials will be available for sale at the meeting, including the book Fossils: Description & Interpretation. There will also be a number of actual fossils available at the meeting for sale. The book and fossils can be a great help in explaining the true history of the earth to young people.

Description: Rick Deighton presents an overview of the book of Job, which zooms in on God’s questions to Job in Chapters 37-41 with special emphasis on God’s descriptions of behemoth and leviathan.  From these chapters we can come to a clear understanding of the purpose for this oldest book in our Bible.  Why did God allow Job to suffer so greatly?  God never gave Job a direct answer to that question – but He did give Job powerful object lessons so he saw the answer and fell on his face before our Awesome God.

Description: Dr. Johnson observed the total solar eclipse that passed over the US on Monday, August 21. He took many pictures of this unique eclipse. Don will show these pictures, as well as some pictures of this eclipse taken by others. Other pictures of eclipses and awesome star formations as captured by others will be shared. A total solar eclipse requires the sun, moon and the earth all to be in 3-body alignment. Scientific discoveries have been made during solar eclipses, especially total eclipses. They allow scientists to see the chromosphere (Sun’s atmosphere), Bailey’s Beads (caused by Moon’s irregularities), the “Diamond ring” effect (caused by light through a deep Moon valley), as well as other effects. Past discoveries and projected studies made possible by eclipses are highlighted. For example, measurements taken during a total eclipse were used to verify Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, proposed in 1905, by verifying Solar gravity bending of light from distant stars. We’ll look at the probabilities of being able to observe total eclipses. The requirements for lunar and solar eclipses will be examined, along with the likelihood of 3-body alignments. Some important design principles have been established by the study of total eclipses. There will be Biblical references, as well as discussion of constellations, Zodiac, astrology, and astronomy. God’s use of heavenly signs will be discussed, especially those recorded in the Bible and the 7-year separation between the very rare total solar eclipses.

Description: Charles Darwin wrote “If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down” [Origin of Species]. He said that the transitional forms would be found in the fossil record, even though none had been found. Have 158 years of science discoveries shown the “missing links”? We’ll look at archaeopteryx, Tiktaalik, hominids (Nebraska man, Laetoli footprints, Hobbits, etc.), trilobites, dinosaurs, as well as ancient species (bacteria with new diets, coelacanths, etc.) still existing. Since all life processes have been shown to be controlled by biological computers, what would be required to form a major change?

Speaker: Dr. Don Johnson has earned PhD’s in both Computer & Information Sciences from the University of Minnesota and in Chemistry from Michigan State University. The Six Days of Genesis

Description: Paul Taylor, the Director of the Mount St. Helens Creation Center, speaks on The Six Days of Genesis. This talk is designed to fit with the book of the same title, and is an exposition of Genesis chapters 1 and 2, showing a biblical and exegetical approach to the issue of origins.

Speaker: Paul Taylor was born and grew up near Manchester in the North of England. He studied piano at Chetham’s School of Music, but read Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. Paul taught Chemistry, Physics and Science in government (“public”) schools in England and Wales for 18 years, eventually becoming a Head of Science, with a Masters in Science Education and Management from the University of Cardiff.

Paul was saved at the age of 15. James Ussher and the History of Bible Chronology

Description: Paul Taylor, the Director of the Mount St. Helens Creation Center, speaks on Ussher and his legacy. Ussher‘s famous Annals of the World still has a major impact on creation studies today. However, it is fashionable for modern Christians – even some creationists – to join evolutionists in disparaging Ussher‘s legacy. This biographical talk explains Ussher’s intellectual and theological background, and shows the depth of his research and ideas – sufficient depth that we should still accept much of his findings today.

Speaker: Paul Taylor was born and grew up near Manchester in the North of England. He studied piano at Chetham’s School of Music, but read Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. Paul taught Chemistry, Physics and Science in government (“public”) schools in England and Wales for 18 years, eventually becoming a Head of Science, with a Masters in Science Education and Management from the University of Cardiff.

Secrets of the Rocks

Description: If you have never been a rockhound, you are missing out on more than collecting pretty rocks. Rocks hold some very interesting and wonderful secrets in God’s creation. During his presentation, Patrick will take us on a journey to explore these secrets. You will discover things that even the most experienced geologist has missed. Your faith will be strengthened and you will come away with some “rock solid” apologetics you can share with your friends.

Speaker: Patrick Nurre was trained in the secular view of geology. Over the past 40 years he has been actively involved in the Creation/Evolution issue in the field of geology. He has spoken to hundreds of college students, and is a popular speaker at many conventions and home school conferences. In 2005, Patrick created Northwest Treasures to provide opportunities to study geology from a Biblical perspective. In the fall of 2012, he opened the Geology Learning Center, a geology museum/educational center located in Lynnwood, WA. Patrick leads field trips each year to many geological sites including his annual field trip to Yellowstone Park in August.

Entropy – When Scientists Ignore Science

Description: The Law of Increasing Entropy is one of the foundational scientific laws of the universe.  Its principle profoundly affects all existence, but particularly living systems.   Entropy is a concept that concerns the spontaneous arrangement of things–that is, the arrangement of anything.  Atoms, photons, playing cards, marbles, informational data bits… nucleotides… anything in large numbers.  The law says that when an arrangement is spontaneously random, “mixedupness” (disorder) must always increase.  Indeed, the fact of increasing entropy attests to the arrow of time for any phenomenon. Everything gets more randomized over time, because more random is more probable than less random (in the absence of intelligent activity).  What does this law have to do with evolution?  Everything!  It means that a scientific law has already falsified a theory that is wishfully hoping that random mutations can mysteriously conjure up fantastically improbable biological arrangements.  Neo-Darwinism flies in the face of established science.

Speaker:  Mark Champneys, was born a 5th generation Mormon, the son of an LDS bishop. Now a believer, he is lay Evangelism Director with Saints Alive in Tacoma, is the King County Fair Ministry Coordinator for Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), and he produced and directed the film “Evolution Demolition.” Mark has had the blessing of training dozens for evangelism, and by God’s grace, of leading hundreds to Jesus.

What is the main message of GENESIS: PARADISE LOST?

GENESIS: PARADISE LOST presents God’s Creation of the world as recorded in the first chapter of the Bible—Genesis Chapter 1. Intertwined with the computer generated images are interviews with scientists and theologians. GENESIS: PARADISE LOST will challenge our culture’s indoctrination into the evolutionary worldview with biblical and scientific facts, and show that a person’s view of origins affects everything, including the sanctity of life, an individual’s purpose for existing, and what happens after death. The film ends with a clear presentation of the Gospel.

What age is this movie appropriate for?

At the end of October we had our world premiere for all the people involved in the film. With over 350 people and dozens of children, we were blessed to have amazing reactions from all ages. We had children from 5 years old and up in the theater and everyone loved it. Understand that there are some documentary portions that will go over their heads, but they will love the 3D animation as the universe is created before their very eyes! We encourage you to watch the trailer to see for yourself what the different portions of the film will look like. Genesis: Paradise Lost has been given a PG rating for “THEMATIC ELEMENTS” by the Motion Picture Association of America.
