Description: Dr. Johnson observed the total solar eclipse that passed over the US on Monday, August 21. He took many pictures of this unique eclipse. Don will show these pictures, as well as some pictures of this eclipse taken by others. Other pictures of eclipses and awesome star formations as captured by others will be shared. A total solar eclipse requires the sun, moon and the earth all to be in 3-body alignment. Scientific discoveries have been made during solar eclipses, especially total eclipses. They allow scientists to see the chromosphere (Sun’s atmosphere), Bailey’s Beads (caused by Moon’s irregularities), the “Diamond ring” effect (caused by light through a deep Moon valley), as well as other effects. Past discoveries and projected studies made possible by eclipses are highlighted. For example, measurements taken during a total eclipse were used to verify Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, proposed in 1905, by verifying Solar gravity bending of light from distant stars. We’ll look at the probabilities of being able to observe total eclipses. The requirements for lunar and solar eclipses will be examined, along with the likelihood of 3-body alignments. Some important design principles have been established by the study of total eclipses. There will be Biblical references, as well as discussion of constellations, Zodiac, astrology, and astronomy. God’s use of heavenly signs will be discussed, especially those recorded in the Bible and the 7-year separation between the very rare total solar eclipses.
Speaker: Dr. Don Johnson has earned PhD’s in both Computer & Information Sciences from the University of Minnesota and in Chemistry from Michigan State University. He was a senior research scientist and consultant for 15 years, and taught 20 years in universities in Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, and Europe. Description: This is the title of CMI’s groundbreaking new book and documentary. In this introductory talk, Dr. Carter will summarize the major issues for the evolutionist three critical areas: natural selection, genetics, and the origin of life. Speaker: Dr Carter was converted to Christ at an early age, but did not know what to do with the theory of evolution. He always knew what he wanted to believe, but had no way to express what he was thinking and no evidence to support his views. In his freshman year of college, he was exposed to the information for creation for the first time and soon after adopted it as his modus operandi. He says he felt a tremendous joy when he realized his science and his religion were no longer at odds. This joy (and, he says, Creation magazine and the Journal of Creation) enabled him to get through the in-depth evolutionary training of his undergraduate and graduate programs with his faith intact.
He obtained a BS in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He then spent four years teaching high school biology, chemistry, physics and electronics before going to the University of Miami to obtain his PhD in Marine Biology. He successfully completed this program in 2003 with a dissertation on “Cnidarian Fluorescent Proteins.” While in Miami, he studied the genetics of pigmentation in corals and other invertebrates, designed and built an aquaculture facility for Caribbean corals, performed well over 500 SCUBA dives, many of them at night, and licensed a spin-off product of his research (a patented fluorescent protein) to a biotech company.
He is currently a senior scientist and speaker for CMI-USA in Atlanta, Georgia, where he lives with his wife, Leanne, and children and is currently researching human genetics and other issues related to biblical creation.

Has Science Now Buried God?
Description: This talk is based on Dr. John Lennox‘s book, God’s Undertaker: Has Science Buried God?” According to many modern commentators, science has now explained all that we observe in the universe and God is no longer needed. We are told that atheism is the only intellectually tenable position, and any attempt to invoke God as the explanation impedes progress in science. Lennox asks the critical question whether science points to atheism? He shows that theism fits more comfortably with science than atheism. Science is limited in the scope of its explanations. We conclude that this is not a debate between science and religion, but a debate between two very different worldviews.
Speaker: Dr. Heinz Lycklama earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics (1965) and a Ph. D. degree in experimental Nuclear Physics (1969) from McMaster University in Canada. Since then he has worked in the telecommunications and computer software industries at Bell Telephone Laboratories in NJ and at Interactive Systems Corporation in CA – as an individual contributor and in management positions. In 1992 Dr. Lycklama founded Open Systems Technology Associates (OSTA) to offer his technology management consulting services to various start-ups in the high technology industry. In 2013 Heinz founded the Apologetics Forum to help equip believers in the defense of The Faith.
Being challenged in his Christian faith by what he was taught in university in the 1960’s, Dr. Lycklama has always maintained an active interest in the Creation vs. Evolution controversy. He has developed a series of lectures on Creation vs. Evolution, Christian Apologetics, and Biblical Worldview over the years and presented the material in Sunday school classes, to college students, during church services, at Bible Schools, and other venues in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. Biblical Worldview As It Relates To Science
Description: Today, bible-believers are a great minority among practicing scientists and are subject to much persecution. Yet, modern science was developed on principles directly derived from Christian theology. Despite that history, science today operates without even token admission of its roots. How does this affect current scientific practices? Can we trust the conclusions of all those men and women in white lab coats? Can science operate in a moral and ontological vacuum? We will examine three examples of how the turn from belief in God has affected modern thought: geomorphology (the shape of the earth’s surface), fossilization (the process of preserving the remains of living organisms), and genetics (specifically as it relates to the genetic history of mankind). In each of these subject areas, we will examine the evolutionary scenarios put forth to date and weight them against solid biblical exposition. In the end, we will see that the evolutionary conclusions for each of these subjects is derived more from starting assumptions than it is from reality. Science belongs under the umbrella of Christianity.
